PERFORMANCE 8 CONCLUDES, ATTENTION SHIFTS TO AVERAGE RACE
SHAWNEE, Okla. –As the dust settles on Performance 8, Round 2 of the International Finals Youth Rodeo (IFYR), storylines and average races begin to circulate, and attention starts to shift to tomorrow’s short go.
Crowds cheered loudly as Patton Ann Lynch (Crawford, Texas) crossed the timers in victorious fashion. Becoming the first cowgirl to break the 16-second mark, she takes over the round, performance, and average lead. Her 15.913-second run puts her in the driver’s seat of the average race with a time of 32.114 on two runs.
Cajun cowgirl Ava Nunez (Bell City, La.) ran the quickest pole bending pattern during the Thursday morning performance, with a smooth 20.581-second run. Currently, she sits in fourth place in the average.
Performance 8 belonged to Madison Stanley (Lufkin, Texas), who was the quickest to catch her calf in 2.3 seconds.
In goat tying, all eyes were on Wyoming cowgirl Hadley Thompson (Yoder, Wyo.), as she laid down the quickest run of the performance with a 7.7-second run.
John-Paul DeJohn (Miami, Fla.) moved into second place in the round after his performance-leading 8.8-second tie-down roping run. Consistent with his 8.8-second run in Round 1, he moves into the number one position in the average with a time of 16.2 seconds on two runs.
In steer wrestling, Colton Wilson (Bertram, Texas) became the first to crack the 4-second mark with an impressive 3.9-second run. This run moved him into second place in the average, behind Kreece Dearing (Chico, Texas).
Making the most of his re-ride, North Carolina cowboy Colton Wilson (Statesville, N.C.) moved into the number one position in the average, round, and performance with a 78.5-point ride. He leads the average with 160.0 points on two horses.
Kash Loyd (Cleburne, Texas) also propelled himself into the driver’s seat of the average race with a 79.5-point ride in Round 2, positioning himself to lead the average with a combined score of 161.0 points.
Team ropers Connor Fair (Jonesboro, La.) and Will Pleasant (Marthaville, La.) laid down the quickest run of the performance with a 5.8-second run.
Bull rider Macon Thomas (Cuero, Texas) marked the highest score of the week thus far with an electrifying 87.5-point ride. This ride also positioned him at the top of the average race.
The rodeo action will continue with Round 2, Performance 9 taking place at 7:30 p.m. at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center and will continue through the evening of July 12.
